Magalie René in Think Deeply, Speak Simply podcast

How do we get rid of the feelings of impostor syndrome? We don’t! Impostor syndrome can actually be a valuable and useful thing to determine if we’re on the right path.

I got the chance to talk impostor syndrome with Jay Rooke on the podcast Think Deeply Speak Simply.

Magalie René on BNC - Return to the Workforce Knowing What You Want

What a great time being a live guest on the Black News Channel’s morning show Start Your Day with Sharon and Mike. We discussed tools for managing the stress of re-entry to the workplace after the year we just experienced.

Watch the interview and learn the tools available to you for return-to-the-office!

It’s been a difficult year for everybody. Going along with sudden changes and uncertainties put stress on a lot, if not all of us. Returning to the office may be a relief for you as a return to normalcy, or maybe during the pandemic you’ve found that you prefer remote work.

Whatever the case may be, you have options at your disposal:

If the return-to-office stress is overwhelming you, try:

  • Setting an intention in the morning: patience, calm, communication, whatever you feel your life is calling for to bring you solace

  • Stop and hold your breath for a count of 7. Then release. Something as simple as this can reset your body and mind

  • Talking to your boss about your options and if you can work something out

  • Re-evaluate what you want. Maybe it’s time for a change and to look into finding a new job that brings you more fulfillment, even if that means taking a pay cut.

If you are excited or ready to return, remember to be respectful and compassionate if your coworkers or employees don’t feel the same. Offer them help or ask them what they need to make the transition smoother. However, if you have coworkers who are spreading negativity about the return if need be, limit your contact with them because their negativity doesn’t have to affect your mood.

You have tools whether you’re the employee that wants to return or not. This is a great time to take care of ourselves and really reflect on what our lives need.

Magalie René in Authority Magazine - Work and Your Divorce

Divorce can be incredibly challenging, painful, messy but if you’re lucky and well equipped it can also be a catalyst (there’s that word again 😉) for living an empowered life.

Ilyssa Panitz and I had an intense conversation about how to keep your head above water if you’re going through a divorce or heartbreak.

I share my personal experiences and thoughts. For instance, yes, you get to feel your emotions but focusing on your career and goals can actually help you heal from it.

This is also an opportunity to conquer impostor syndrome and how to practice radical compassion.

Thank you Authority Magazine  for the opportunity to share! 👏🏾😊✨

Magalie René on The Ladders - The New Men's Suit

So excited to have been featured in The Ladders! A huge part of being a confident, compassionate leader stems from showing up as your whole self, and what better way to do that than to express yourself through fashion! Thanks to Meredith Lepore at The Ladders for allowing me to share my thoughts on the evolution of the Suit in the workplace. Check out the article on what men will be wearing to work instead of suits in the fast approaching future.

SpeechCast Podcast - Skills of Persuasion

If you want to become a great leader or want to improve your leadership skills, check out Dave Aizer’s podcast, SpeechCast. In this episode our very own Compassionate Leadership expert Magalie René was invited to answer these tough questions and share advice on best practices.

On it, we provide answers to common questions such as:

What is a Compassionate Leader and what does one look like?

How does one inspire those they lead?

What are the best methods for listening to what’s being presented to you?

Click the image below to listen!

Here are some tips from the podcast:

“Leadership is a combination of innate skill and learned skill, I believe anyone can learn to be one. Everyone is a leader in their own right; if you’re a parent, an author, etc., you are a leader.”

“I believe connection can be felt through any medium, whether virtual or in person. It’s less about the mechanism and more about your ability to tap into human experience to connect with someone on a deeper level. It comes from being authentic and being able to connect.”

Magalie René on Re-entering the Workforce with GMA 3

What an incredible experience to be interviewed on Good Morning America’s GMA3. Magalie shared Workplace Catalyst’s work supporting organizations who are navigating return-to-the-office.

We’re thrilled about our Road to Re-entry program, which helps the shift from remote work back into the office but as Delta rages on who knows where we’ll be in the coming months. This program guides Compassionate Leaders through the process of making the re-entry as smooth as possible for employees. I discussed ways to make this possible in the interview.

We also discussed Compassionate Leadership,  focusing on who leaders choose to BE (empathetic, understanding, empowering) as they go about doing the important work of leading. In the case of re-entering the workplace this means being present for employees’ needs  and creating an environment of connection, collaboration and inclusion.

Don’t assume you know what others need, use the available resources and go from there.

These skills are vital to have in the shift from remote work back into the office. When we have our routines, it can be uncomfortable or even scary to change what we’ve grown used to them and many employees are experiencing this following working from home for over a year. Leaders who understand this are going to have a much more successful transition because their employees will feel cared for.

Creating an environment of powerful communication and Compassionate Leadership will also help your team down the road after the shift has been made.

Magalie René on KTLA News - Taking a "Sad Day"

Magalie René was interviewed on KTLA 5 news about the importance of mental health following Simone Biles’ decision at the Tokyo Olympics. The introduction of this conversation was well-timed, as returning to work and COVID burnout are problems many people are currently grappling with.

Taking a mental health day is no different from a normal sick day. There is no shame in feeling sad, angry, burnt out, or simply low energy, just as there is no shame in coming down with a fever or dealing with a migraine.

The decision Simone Biles made that day was so important to the mental health conversation. To see one of the world’s greatest athletes, who trains for hours a day, take a step back and say, “You know what? I’m not going to finish competing. I’m not OK right now and I need to put me first,” is INCREDIBLY powerful, because even the healthiest and fittest individuals struggle with mental health. There is a common misconception that if you’re physically healthy, then you are mentally. But the truth is that everyone struggles internally.

And it’s OK.

You're not weak, a slacker, or being fragile for choosing to rest. Your taking a day to reset isn’t contributing to a “society of fragility,” It’s actually the opposite!

Resting and re-setting helps us:

  • bring our best selves back to work

  • perform at our highest level

  • build compassionate work cultures

Additionally, you don’t owe anyone an explanation for doing what you need to do to reset. Handle it responsibly but know it’s EFFECTIVE to recover (athletes like Simone do it all the time!) especially considering the circumstances we’re living through right now.

If you’re unsure how to identify when you need a “sad day” off or what you should do to reset, I share some tips in the interview.

Magalie René in Real Simple Magazine

Burnout is real and it can impact your mental health, your productivity, and your day-to-day life. If you’re experiencing burnout (or want to prevent it) but you don’t want to leave your job, our Compassionate Leadership expert Magalie has tips that will offer some perspective on taking a work sabbatical. I had the opportunity to share how you can achieve this practically, in a way that benefits both your work and your self interests.

We all deserve the ability to recharge without judgment or fear. Everyone deserves an opportunity to develop and bring the best of themselves to their work environment.

Read more about work sabbaticals here!

As mentioned in the article, younger generations believe the prospect of wellness and happiness is more important. To that end, a sabbatical is a great “way for employers to implement their dedication to mental and physical health” as well as that “it could help reduce employee turnover.”

Talk to your supervisors about it and make your work sabbatical a win-win!

Interview with CW's Focus Atlanta

For some, George Floyd’s passing feels like a lifetime ago, and others can’t believe it’s already been one year. Those who are still speaking and advocating for racial equality fuel their activism with their passions, but what if you aren’t sure how to keep the momentum going? Compassionate Leader expert Magalie shared multiple ways you can do this while keeping your compassion and empathy with CW Atlanta.
